Henry Patterson was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne (England) on 27 July 1929 to an English father, and a Northern Irish mom. After his mother divorced, he was raised in Belfast and moved to Leeds. After a two-year stint in national service, he was qualified as a teacher. He then began to write novels. In 1959, he received a PS75 advance to pay for Sad Wind From the Sea. Patterson’s literary agent Jonathan Lloyd was also president of Curtis Brown. He said that he was there when the Manuscript of The Eagle had landed at Collins Publishers, and everyone knew it would be a classic.

Pattersons was the author of 85 novels. He used the pseudonym Jack Higgins for the espionage and thriller genres. The Eagle, his 1975 novel, was his most famous work. It was published during the second world war. The book sold over 50 million copies. It was also adapted into a British movie of the same title, starring Sir Michael Caine and Donald Sutherland. Patterson’s books were published in 60 languages and sold over 250 million copies worldwide.

His books, including the Eagle Landing, Liam Devlin Books, and his later Sean Dillon series, were unputdownable.
